Thousands of toxic or poorly tested chemicals are used in our homes, schools, and work places everyday. These toxins are building up in our bodies and are contributing to an alarming trend in public health including increased rates of birth defects and disease. To protect our health, we need federal and state systems that use precaution and account for the damaging impacts of chemicals before harm is done. We need a regulatory system that requires the use of the safest alternatives whenever possible.
To accomplish this, VPIRG is striving to fundamentally change the way that we regulate chemicals in Vermont. As a lead organizer of the Alliance for a Clean and Healthy Vermont, we are working to ban dangerous toxins and create a strong regulatory system that is focused on preventing harm
